ABOUT ME

Issue-led journalist and feature writer working across multiple sectors, specialising in turning complex subjects into clear, structured editorial narratives.
How I work
My work is built around understanding what editors actually need: usable formats, strong angles, and clean structure. I don’t just write about subjects - I build stories that fit editorial frameworks.
- Develop original, pitch-ready ideas
- Frame stories around editorial need, not subject expertise alone
- Adapt quickly to house style and tone
- Focus on clarity, structure and usability
- Reduce commissioning friction by supplying near-ready features
I work across sectors where systems, people and change intersect. I apply a consistent editorial approach whether producing issue-led features, expert-led narratives, human insight pieces, profiles or explainers.
I’m responsive to editorial direction, and used to working across different publication styles and commissioning processes.
My Story!
I’ve always been drawn to how stories are formed, structured and understood. As a child, I was obsessed first with dinosaurs, then with cricket, then the Napoleonic wars and finally Doctor Who.
I didn’t just love these things; I needed to know everything about them. I’d fill notebooks, question adults, create timelines, stats, storylines. It wasn’t just about collecting facts for facts sake, though - it was all about collecting details to tell better stories. I’d ask: what’s missing? What do I still need to find out to make this story clearer, sharper, more real? Then I’d go and dig. The instinct to research deeply, spot the gaps, and rebuild the story with clarity and care, never left me. It’s the same drive I bring today, to every commission. Curious, focused, detail-led, and I always ask: what does the reader need to understand, and how can I deliver it best? What’s the objective? What’s missing that I need to find? How do the parts connect?
Working in professional environments, previously, as a teacher and a coach, I learned how organisations function under pressure, how professionals communicate (or don’t communicate, in some cases) and what professionalism looks like when it’s tested. I became more adaptable, a better listener and honed my questioning skills with both the recipient and my own objective, in mind. As a writer, I now better understand how to meet expectations, solve problems and write with the reader in mind.
My focus is always on producing clear, usable editorial work that fits commissioning needs while offering strong, original angles. I’ve developed a writing style that’s both curious and sharply focused, able to dig deep, ask the right questions, and craft stories that resonate in a wide range of genres. I hold an MA in Professional Writing and my editorial work has been recognised by industry awards, including a TABPI Gold Award (Best Special Section) and a Tabbies International Editorial and Design Award.
My work has appeared in numerous specialist, professional, national and international titles. Credits include: The Independent, Wired, E&T, CA Magazine, Reader's Digest, Saga, ESPN Cricinfo, the Cricketer, The Nightwatchman, Daily Telegraph (Australia).
I've interviewed more than fifty former international cricketers, from modern figures such as Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff to all-time greats including Muttiah Muralitharan, Graeme Pollock and Greg Chappell, translating elite-level insight into accessible, narrative-led features.
If you’d like to commission a feature or explore an idea, I’m always open to shaping it into a clear, structured piece for your publication.
